Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Course
What is the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit course you offer?
The Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Course is a 4 hour course that consists of classroom training. Live Fire is not required to obtain the permit. The course is taught by a Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification certified Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Instructor as required by Utah state law. During the 4 hours you will receive all of the instruction and proper training according to Utah Code 53-5-704, including safe handgun practices, Utah and Federal laws that govern firearms and the use of force. The instructors will also address issues related to permit holders understanding their personal abilities and limitations related to concealed carry.
What’s required to obtain a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit?
Applicants are required to: (1) be at least 21 years of age; (2) complete a state mandated class taught by a Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification certified Concealed Firearm Permit instructor; (3) submit a completed application to the State of Utah, including (a) a photocopy of your driver’s license (or other government issued photo ID), (b) a passport sized photograph, (c) a completed fingerprint card, (d) a copy of your concealed weapon permit from your home state if you live in a state that recognizes the Utah permit (this is not required if you live in a state that does not recognize the Utah permit such as California); (4) pay an application fee for Utah residents or for non-residents; and (5) pass the FBI criminal background check.
What do you provide and how much will this all cost?
We provide the required 4 hours of certified instruction and we will collect our instruction fee from you. At the end of class we will provide you with an application stamped and signed by the instructor, a completed fingerprint card, a passport sized photo, a photo copy of your driver’s license (or other government photo ID), and a stamped envelope to take with you. You will need to add a $51.00 (non-residents) check or money order and mail everything in the envelope.
Where is the training location?
This course is conducted in our training facility. We also will conduct this course at your location. Since Utah does not require any shooting, most locations that offer undistracted space will do. If you have a business, garage, clubhouse, or spacious living room, etc. and are willing to host the students you invite, in most cases we will be able to bring the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Course to you. We offer a discount if you have a group of 5 or more.
In what states will I be allowed to carry after I receive my Utah Concealed Carry Permit?
The Utah Concealed Carry Permit allows the permit holder to carry their firearm concealed in any of the 31 listed reciprocating states. (These states may change at any time. It is up to the individual permit holder to check the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification website for an updated list. Additionally we will provide you with a training certificate that you will be able to submit with other state applications if you decide to apply for other state non-resident Concealed Carry Permits. This is not the same training required for a California Concealed Carry Weapon License, nor does Utah permit allow you to carry concealed within California. California only recognizes California permits.
Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Instruction
Do you offer basic pistol (handgun), rifle, and shotgun instruction?
Yes, we offer NRA Basic Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun courses. We also offer Pistol Handling, and Firing Fundamentals, tailored to meet the needs of the student coupled with clear handgun safety; and Instruction in Field Stripping and Cleaning your pistol or rifle.
The NRA Basic Pistol and Rifle Shooting Courses
These courses introduce students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol or rifle safely. Each separate course is eight hours. The course includes classroom and range instruction and provides the participants with pistol or rifle knowledge and safe gun handling, ammunition knowledge, pistol or rifle shooting fundamentals, shooting positions, and shooting sports and activities. Students will receive an NRA Certified Instructor signed certificate after successfully completing the course, including the review and shooting exercises.
The Fundamentals of Pistol Handling and Firing
This course introduces the new student to pistol shooting fundamentals and handling. Safety is paramount. The instructor will be teach skills that will help the student to be safe and comfortable when handling and firing a pistol. It doesn’t matter if you are a new handgun shooter or a beginning level handgun shooter interested in learning more and improving your skills. The depth and breadth of the instruction is mutually determined by the student and coach and is guided by sound recommendations from the coach. The class size is determined by the student. Shooting exercises are at a public range. Classroom training will typically be limited to 2-3 hours, allowing sufficient time to cover necessary topics. Range time will typically be limited to 1-2 hours.
Firearm Field Stripping and Cleaning Instruction
Learning how to field strip and clean your own firearm is an important skill. You’ll learn to clean your own firearm and troubleshoot basic problems. If your firearm require some minimal amount of disassembly (or field stripping) to clean, you will be taught how to disassemble and reassemble for cleaning. The class size is determined by the student. Shooting is not part of this instruction. Classroom training will typically be limited to 1-2 hours. Students will be provided with files containing firearm specific instruction or the link to the material.
